God is moving in Ethiopia!

Thank you for your gifts and prayers! Lutheran Bible Translators (LBT), in partnership with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY), unveiled the Helge Center for Scripture Engagement on June 19th. This building will be monumental for expanding partnership in Bible translation.

Attendees of the dedication toured the building. As they climbed each set of stairs, they prayed for the students, faculty, and purposes of the building.

The momentous occasion of the building dedication was paired with the graduation of students from the Bible translation training program and the first Bible Week celebrated in Ethiopia.

A Model Project

“This is a model project in developing a sustainable program, while incorporating the Bible as the center of all the programs, ministry, and practices of the church, as well as generating revenue to run the program resourcefully.” – Rev. Dr. Bruk Ayele (President of Mekane Yesus Seminary)

But this new building would not be here if not for your continued gifts and prayers! Construction was set to begin in March 2020, right as COVID was declared a pandemic. Ethiopia has also experienced much national mourning and political unrest in the past two years. God continued to provide despite various shutdowns and supply-chain issues.

“The gracious response of donors and leaders within the church to make this happen is moving this paradigm of sustainable mission into the future. This shall have everlasting sustainable impact for generations yet to come. God’s Word continues to move to the ends of the earth through this model until we all stand before the Lamb and sing the song of eternity.” – Rev. Dr. Tilahun Mendedo, Executive Development Officer for Lutheran Bible Translators and Mekane Yesus Seminary graduate.

“The church here will be able to really be a leader in Bible translation in the future in this region, in Ethiopia, and projects outside of the country.”
